From the advent of p2p (peer to peer) file sharing applications in the 80s and 90s, from bulletin boards to dedicated applications like Limewire, a freedom of information and content sharing began in earnest. Queer users were able to share content that might have been physically inaccesible, or self-distribute artistic content such as pictures, self-produced music, and even short clips.
